Seven Cottages Converted to a High Standard with Stunning Views
Le Vieux Monastere is a former 12c monastery converted into 7 high quality two, three and four bedroomed cottages. We are beautifully positioned in a rural location with stunning views across open countryside, with heated swimming pool and games room. The property is enclosed, providing a safe and secure environment, which is ideal for families with young children.
Renoir is a four bedroomed cottage arranged on two floors. Beautifully finished to a high standard whilst retaining attractive stone walls and oak beams.
Accommodation comprises:
- Large open plan living/dining area with soft furniture, satellite TV/DVD, ipod dock, dining table and chairs.
- Well equipped kitchen with fridge freezer, full size cooker and hob, washing machine, dishwasher, microwave oven.
- Bedroom 1 and 2 have double beds.
- Bedrooms 3 and 4 have 2 single beds each.
- Two bathrooms each with shower, toilet and wash hand basin. Hairdryer.
WiFi available. Linen and towels included. Beach towels can be hired.
Outside
Downstairs French windows open on to south facing deck area with table and chairs, barbecue.
Le Vieux Monastere is conveniently situated between the roman town of Saintes and the medieval town of St Jean d'Angely with their abundance of lively markets, shops and restaurants.
Although enjoying a beautiful rural location, it is only 3km from the village of St Hilaire de Villefranche, which provides village facilities including general store, boulangerie, post office, tabac and bar/restaurant.
Within easy reach are Cognac, La Rochelle and numerous beaches and islands.
Set among sunflower fields and vineyards Le Vieux Monastère and its grounds provide privacy and seclusion within the stone walls that surround the property. This ensures a safe and secure environment for children, allowing parents the freedom to relax and enjoy our tranquil location and facilities. We also offer babysitting in high season to enable you to enjoy that special evening out.
Whilst Charente Maritime offers many attractions and places of interest to visit, Le Vieux Monastère is a perfect place in which to soak up the sun and unwind. Have a look at what we have to offer… A former pigeonnier, our games room includes table tennis, table football, children's toys and a book exchange. We also have a library of DVD’s available. The large area of lawn lying central to the grounds is bordered by the cottages, creating a pleasant village green atmosphere. It is a perfect play area for all sorts of outdoor games including boules and croquet, volleyball and kwik cricket. There is a swing set for the younger children and we also offer bicycle hire.
Social events - our sun terrace has spectacular south facing views across the valley and is the venue for holding our welcome drinks and optional weekly group meals (in high season). This comfortable seating area is also a natural magnet for guests to relax and savour early evening drinks whilst absorbing the unique atmosphere of the historical site. At the same time this provides the opportunity to make new friends and exchange stories with your fellow guests in the most convivial of environments. Our optional group meal in high season is always popular, and has a “party” atmosphere, making it great fun. The evening is often rounded off with a late night swim for the children, providing a truly memorable experience for them.
