“Lot-et-Garonne is France as most people imagine the country to be. Warm, verdant, colourful, picturesque, historic - and very peaceful. This region has one of the lowest population densities in all of France, some of the best wine, the most beautiful scenery and the loveliest and friendliest people.

Hiking in FranceLike to hike? From serious trekking to a pleasant ramble through an astonishing variety of landscapes, France is a country amazingly well-equipped with opportunities.

The little known region of Ariège epitomises everything we love about France. The landscape is beautiful and varied, with majestic mountains, ancient forests and abundant wildlife; people live in tune with the land and a traditional culture has been proudly maintained for centuries; festivals and celebrations abound; the food is delicious and there are outdoor activities to enjoy all year round.

A lovingly converted stone farmhouse for sale in Lot-et-Garonne and a beautiful house for rent on the trendy Ile de Ré. The story of the owners of both these gorgeous French Connections properties are featured in the latest issue of French Property News in two separate major articles.

Friends and family frequently ask “why France?”  It wasn’t my idea! A besotted better half hankered after a more ‘rural’ life with lots of space, sunshine, delicious food and ingredients and, of course, great wines. Well it didn’t sound all that bad and, after three years spent travelling the South West looking for our ideal home and commercial venture, I was smitten and pressing him for decisions.

Are you ready to shake off the winter blues and add a little romance to your life? Then why not plan a trip to France where you will find everything you need for a romantic break. Valentine’s Day is upon us and Paris of course has to be one of the most romantic of cities to visit. But, if you want to go one step further, there is a little village called St. Valentin in Indre, in the Val de Loire region which is known as the ‘village of love.’ You can even get your letters stamped with the name of the village on them from the village post office. You will find heart shaped chocolate gifts and of course lots of wonderful French food and wine to make any French holiday romantic.

The Times newspaper has chosen its top holidays in France for 2014 and among the 'Best for Culture' is a holiday offered through French Connections in the Ardèche. At La Mirande, a stylish converted farmhouse near Rochessauve, property owner Gray Veredon, is offering an innovative all-inclusive culture break, which includes transfers from Valence railway station, accommodation, escorted visits and gourmet meals with wine.

Gray VeredonGray is a top choreographer and originally went to France as director of ballet at Lyons. He bought La Mirande as a weekend escape set in peaceful rural seclusion and, after a career that included working with David Hockney as set designer, he became a professional tour guide and now lives full-time in his beloved Ardèche.

Southern France is of course rich in wine, food, culture and glorious countryside and the culture break includes accommodation in theatrically designed, luxuriously furnished suites, guided visits to cultural events and locations and home-cooked meals each evening. The farmhouse retains period features with artistic interiors and there is accommodation for just six, so guests can  travel as couples or a small group.

Guests influence the choice of each day’s destinations and activities, which include shopping at the market for a cookery session and outings to vineyards, lavender fields, Roman sites, ceramic works and music festivals. Also at La Mirande is a self-catering cottage for visitors who prefer a more independent break.
