Uzes (Gard)
Uzès is a charming market town in the Gard département, Languedoc, France. It is internationally known for its ancient streets, famous Place aux Herbes, beautiful mansions, its impressive Duchy, its Baroque-type Cathedral and the Eglise St-Etienne. It is close to the ancient Roman Pont du Gard which is a must see when visiting the region.
Uzès, capital of the region called l'Uzège, is situated in the center of the Ales-Nimes-Avignon triangle, where garrigues alternate with vineyards and fields. Its lifestyle, the quality of its housing, and the number of year-round activities make it a lively town in which all services, amenities and shops are available, despite its modest size.
The famous Uzes Provencal market takes place on a Saturday under the arcades of the Place aux Herbes and along the adjacent streets with old houses from the Renaissance period which have Roman and Medieval vestiges.
In the market you will find a profusion of regional products, in a warm and colorful atmosphere and there are also plenty of charming shops of all kinds.
Visitors will enjoy the narrow streets, alleys and old-style squares, enhanced by the medieval towers that dominate the old town. Main sights include the Duchy and the Tour Fenestrelle.
